Our Underworld tour takes you to an underground river in Playa del Carmen, hidden in a natural cave in the jungle. In fact, our tour company has been operating here for 10 years, so our guides know the cave well. Because the tour lasts 3 hours, it is a great plan for families with children.
What to expect at the underground river in Playa del Carmen
- First, we send you the pick-up time the day before and collect you at your hotel.
- Then, our guide takes you into the jungle to the entrance of the cave.
- After that, you walk down and swim in the fresh water of the underground river.
- Finally, we take you back to your hotel in Playa del Carmen.
The ancient Maya saw these caves as the door to Xibalba, the underworld. Today, they are among the most extraordinary landscapes of the Riviera Maya. Besides, the water is clear and fresh, so the swim is a perfect break from the heat.

- Recommended for children aged 5 and up
- Bring sunscreen, bug repellent and a towel
- Guided tour in English, Spanish, French and Italian
- Not recommended for pregnant women
Please leave your phone and camera behind, because you cannot take them into the underground river. However, the tour includes all the equipment you need.
